The Lighthouse for the Blind is a non-profit organization that provides essential services to the visually impaired. This video, “It’s Time to Tell Our Story,” is the first of a seven-part video production project created to increase awareness within the Fort Worth community.
The Lighthouse is a place of encouragement and empowerment that provides meaningful employment opportunities to those who are legally or totally blind. This organization has been in Fort Worth since the 1930s and has a rich history that more people in the community should be aware of. They have grown from nine employees assembling mops and pillow cases to a sophisticated, fully-functioning manufacturing plant.
From their site, “Currently, the Lighthouse’s Industrial Division employs 75 individuals who are legally blind for the manufacturing of products such as energy dissipation pads, graffiti remover, hygiene kits, non-incendiary LED marking flares, fast pack shipping containers, copy paper and clear-barrel pens.”
